Five healthcare provider organizations and a state government program were named winners of the 2010 HIMSS Davies Awards of Excellence for their implementation and use of health information technology, the Chicago-based not-for-profit Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society has announced.
Winners of the Davies award for work in the ambulatory-care environment are Miramont Family Medicine, Fort Collins, Colo.; and the Diabetes Center, Ocean Springs, Miss.
Open Door Family Medical Center in Ossining, N.Y., was named the winner of the Davies Community Health Award, and the Wisconsin Immunization Registry of the Wisconsin Division of Public Health received the Davies Public Health Award. Recipients of the Davies Organizational Awards are Sentara Health System, Norfolk, Va., and Nemours, Wilmington, Del.
The awards are named for the late physician informaticist Nicholas Davies, a member of the Institute of Medicine's pioneering Committee on Improving the Patient Record. Davies was president-elect of the American College of Physicians when he died in a plane crash in 1991. The first Davies awards winners were named in 1995.
More information about the awards and about this year's winners is available at HIMSS' website.
