Carolinas HealthCare System, Charlotte, acquired a 10-physician cardiology group and merged it into its existing cardiology practice. Heart Group of the Carolinas is now part of the system's Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Heart Group of the Carolinas includes six midlevel providers and 48 staff members. The group's two offices—one of which is on the campus of Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast, Concord, N.C.—will remain open. The deal improves access to clinical trials, heart transplant services, minimally invasive surgical procedures and advanced technology for Heart Group's patients, according to Heart Group President Patrick Anonick. Carolinas acquired the former Sanger Clinic in 2005. At the time, Sanger was the largest cardiology group in the Charlotte area, with more than 60 physicians.
