There's a lot to talk about, so I won't delay the lead.
A new face in D.C. ...
... and honoring winners in our Up & Comers, Best Places to Work awards
Jessica Zigmond is the new bureau chief of our Washington office. Zigmond, 35, will be relocating to Washington next month from our Chicago newsroom, where she's covered public health and specialty-care providers since she joined our editorial staff in 2005. Zigmond replaces Matthew DoBias, 40, who accepted a position as one of the lead healthcare correspondents for the National Journal, a weekly magazine on politics and policy based in Washington. DoBias did a tremendous job for us and our readers over the past five years, particularly last year during the national healthcare reform debate. Please join me in thanking him for a job well done and wishing him well on his new career path. We're confident Zigmond will pick up where DoBias left off and continue to provide our readers with the news, information and insight from the nation's capital that directly affect the business operations of their healthcare organizations and corporations. Please join me in congratulating Zigmond on her promotion and welcoming her to Washington.
In a few pages following this editorial, we announce and profile the recipients of this year's Up & Comers awards and honors program. Here's how we came up with this year's crop of 12 deserving young healthcare executives, who are already making a difference at their institutions and in their communities. Modern Healthcare issued a call for nominations for its 24th annual Up & Comers recognition program on May 3. We received 103 nominations, down from last year's 139. An editorial review board composed of the magazine's senior editors reviewed the nominations and selected the 12 recipients. We extend our thanks to all of this year's nominees and appreciate their participation in this year's program. Look for an announcement of the 25th annual Up & Comers award program next spring.
In case you missed it, we announced the recipients of our Best Places to Work in Healthcare program for 2010. The list of the 100 Best Places to Work is available on our website in alphabetical order. We'll be announcing the ranked list, from 1 to 100, at a banquet in Dallas on Oct. 18 and in a special supplement to be published on Oct. 25. To view the alphabetical list and learn more about the banquet and supplement, please go to modernhealthcare.com/bestplaces.
Our new blog on healthcare information went live last week on our website and already is drawing a lot of attention and comments from readers. “IT Everything” is written by veteran IT reporter Joseph Conn, whose knowledge of the beat and passion for the topic will make “IT Everything” a must-read for anyone interested in making information technology work in their organizations. You can read “IT Everything” at modernhealthcare.com/blogs/it-everything. And if you're looking for tips on how to pay for all that wonderful new technology and any other big-ticket expenses, please read our healthcare finance blog, “Of Interest”, written by New York bureau chief and lead healthcare finance reporter Melanie Evans. It's also a must-read for anyone wanting to know more about how healthcare providers make, spend, borrow and invest money.
