Joseph Frick is retiring as president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross, effective Dec. 15.
Daniel Hilferty, executive vice president and president of Health Markets at the Philadelphia-based insurer, has been chosen as successor.
Frick, 58, will continue to serve as vice chair of IBC's board of directors and will also lead a new board committee focused on strategic partnerships and initiatives. The succession planning was a year in the making, according to a news release. Frick has led the not-for-profit insurer for the past six years.
