Rehabilitation provider HealthSouth Corp. said it has entered into a definitive agreement to buy Sugar Land Rehabilitation Hospital, a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility in southwest Houston. Financial terms were not disclosed.
HealthSouth to acquire Houston rehab hospital
The news follows Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth's recent purchase of Desert Canyon Rehabilitation Hospital in Las Vegas and the opening of two facilities: HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia, a 40-bed hospital in Loudoun County and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Southwest Virginia, a 25-bed hospital in Bristol that is owned through a joint venture between HealthSouth and Wellmont Health System and is managed by HealthSouth.
The deal—which is still subject to closing conditions—is expected to close in the third quarter of this year. HealthSouth operates 13 rehabilitation hospitals throughout Texas and one long-term, acute-care hospital in Houston, according to the company.
