S.C. hospital system announces ACO
Bill Gerard, an emergency room physician with the Carolina Care medical group, said doctors who contract with the ACO will agree to meet certain quality and disease-management performance targets.
Gerard, co-chairman of the wholly owned subsidiary, said the network hopes to negotiate utilization targets and savings bonus payments with insurers later this year. The system is seeking to recruit doctors from Palmetto Health's more than 1,000-member medical staff, including the University of South Carolina School of Medicine faculty. No method has yet been determined to distribute bonuses among members, he said.
