Many factors aggravate doc shortage
An issue not just for general surgery.
Declining reimbursement, high costs of a medical education (which are not addressed in the recent healthcare reform legislation), the med-mal crisis, uncertainties of compensation under healthcare reform, 21%-plus threatened reduction in Medicare Part B reimbursement every few months, and immigration laws that make it easier for unskilled laborers than physicians to enter the U.S. legally. Any surprise we are facing a shortage of physicians?
