The American National Standards Institute has given final approval of revised patient-tracking standards developed by the Health Industry Business Communications Council.
ANSI approves patient-tracking standards
The updated, nonproprietary standards, known as Provider Application Standards, will enhance hospitals' ability to track patient visits and expand the system for global use, according to a news release.
The new standards include a patient visit identification application, which can be used to spot specific episodes of care provided by a hospital for a given patient. In addition, the Provider Application Standards have been revised so they are fully compatible with tracking systems developed by the International Organization for Standardization.
