The Healthcare Group Purchasing Industry Initiative, an industry ethics and standards organization, launched two initiatives aimed at increasing transparency and improving oversight of the healthcare group purchasing industry. According to a news release, HGPII has created a supplier grievance process where medical-device suppliers can have their grievances over group purchasing organization contracting practices heard and resolved by neutral officials from the American Arbitration Association. The second initiative establishes an independent advisory council, which will be made up of ethics experts who provide advice on adoption of and compliance with best practices. No appointments have been made to the council, but the group will consist of at least three advisers who have no GPO affiliation, according to the advisory council charter.
