A new training video for medical professionals illustrating safe handling of medications and injections was prompted by a hepatitis C outbreak in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas hepatitis cases spark CDC training video
A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official in Atlanta cites the exposure centered on two Las Vegas outpatient clinics that left at least nine and maybe as many as 114 patients with hepatitis C.
The official said that played a critical role in deciding to remind providers throughout the country that every injection should be a safe one.
The message is clear in the video: "Use one needle, one syringe, only one time."
The video is part of an initiative developed by the Safe Injection Practices Coalition — including patient advocacy organizations, foundations, health care providers and the CDC.
