Healthcare IT advances have prompted Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt., to eliminate 23 medical transcriptionists, according to a news release. Additionally, three transcription positions have been eliminated through attrition.
The 30 positions were cut as a result of a decreased need for transcription services, hospital officials said in the news release. The 420-bed hospital has replaced the antiquated service with speech-recognition software and an electronic medical-record system that allows physicians to enter information directly into patients’ records.
Fletcher Allen has said it will provide severance packages to the affected employees.
