WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Raleigh, N.C., said it has hired Thomas Gettinger to be its executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective June 28. Gettinger replaces Deborah Friberg, who left WakeMed to become executive vice president of Columbia St. Mary's, Milwaukee, and president of Columbia St. Mary's Hospital Milwaukee and Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Institute.
WakeMed hires Gettinger as COO
Gettinger, 46, is leaving Moses Cone Health System, Greensboro, N.C., where he has worked since 1992, according to the Moses Cone system. Most recently, Gettinger was president of the Moses Cone Memorial Hospital campus; in that role, he led the planning for a $200 million bed tower project.
Gettinger earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C., and a master in health administration from Duke University, Durham, N.C.
