North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, Great Neck, N.Y., said it acquired Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, after the deal won clearance from antitrust regulators.
North Shore-LIJ acquires Lenox Hill
The deal expands North Shore-LIJ's reach into Manhattan. The system, which now owns 11 hospitals, finished fiscal 2009 on Dec. 31 with income of $239.9 million on revenue of $4.9 billion.
Lenox Hill, a 153-year-old hospital with 524 beds, lost $8.1 million on revenue of $674.3 million in fiscal 2009, which also closed on Dec. 31. North Shore-LIJ has also proposed a new medical school with Hofstra University. The system said an accreditation decision is expected this summer in a news release announing the Lenox Hill deal.
