Kathy Johnson, 55, has been appointed vice president of coding quality and compliance services at Care Communications, Chicago.
Previously, Johnson was the firm's director of coding services, offering strategic guidance for Care Communications and several coding related national committees to help hospitals and health networks adapt to the future state of coding and compliance needs of their organizations.
In her new role, Johnson will continue to help hospitals and health networks maintain compliance with CMS regulations on recovery audit contractors, Medicare administrative contractors and hospital-acquired conditions as well as preparing for the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10. “With significant changes on the horizon, including the ICD-10 transition, as well as changes in classification systems, coding technology and reimbursement, we're at an exciting time in the health information management industry. Along with the coding quality and compliance team, I look forward to leading organizations through the many regulatory challenges ahead,” Johnson said in a written statement.
Along with Johnson's promotion to vice president, Care Communications' Coding Services department will be renamed Coding Quality and Compliance to reflect growth and demand of coding compliance services for hospitals and physician practices.
