WM Healthcare Solutions, a Houston-based provider of medical-waste management services, has purchased certain assets of MedServe from Stericycle, a Lake Forest, Ill.-based medical-waste management company. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
WM Healthcare buys MedServe assets from Stericycle
The deal facilitates Stericycle's compliance with a U.S. Justice Department consent decree ordering the company to divest specific assets following Stericycle's $182.5 million purchase of MedServe in December 2009. Justice Department officials said the deal violated antitrust laws and was likely to limit competition and increase the cost of medical-waste removal in four states where Stericycle and MedServe were the only companies providing such services. Prior to purchase, MedServe provided on-site sharps management, medical-waste treatment and hazardous materials management.
Under the purchase agreement, WM Healthcare Solutions has acquired an autoclave treatment facility in Newton, Kan., and transfer stations in Kansas City, Kan.; Booneville, Mo.; Omaha, Neb.; and Oklahoma City.
