Wholesale prices at acute-care hospitals inched up 0.1% last month after a 0.5% rise in February, newly released preliminary figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show. The producer price index for acute-care hospitals a year ago also climbed 0.1%. For the 12 months that ended in March, the PPI rose 3.5% compared with 2.6% the prior year. Physician office wholesale prices declined 0.1% in March. That’s compared with a 0.1% increase in February and a 0.2% rise in March 2009. For the year that ended last month, the physician office PPI rose 2% after rising 2.1% during the prior 12 months.
