Some insurance experts have told the media that this provision in the law regarding coverage for children with pre-existing conditions is too vague.
Sebelius will issue regulations in the coming weeks to ensure that no children can be excluded from either their parents' health plan or to certain treatments within plans, she wrote in the letter to Karen Ignagni, president and CEO of AHIP.
“I urge you to share this information with your members and to help ensure they cease any attempt to deny coverage to some of the youngest and most vulnerable members,” Sebelius wrote in the letter.
In addition, Democratic Reps. Henry Waxman and George Miller of California and Sander Levin of Michigan also issued a clarifying statement on the matter, saying that “we fully expect that this legislation will prevent insurance companies from denying coverage.”
