Former HHS Secretary Donna Shalala has been nominated to a newly created seat on the board of directors for Mednax, a Sunrise, Fla.-based national medical group providing anesthesia, neonatal, maternal-fetal and pediatric subspecialty services.
Shalala, 69, was HHS secretary from 1993 until 2001. She has been the president of the University of Miami since 2001. She is also a director for the Gannett Co. and Lennar Corp., and she is a trustee of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.
Mednax shareholders will vote on a slate of directors that includes Shalala at their annual meeting scheduled for May 6 in Weston, Fla., according to a news release. Through its affiliated corporations, Mednax employs more than 1,450 physicians in 33 states and Puerto Rico.
