Executives from five major health insurers met with HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, President Barack Obama and four state insurance commission officials at the White House over recent double-digit premium increases, and said they agreed more transparency is needed over premiums. Sebelius asked the executives to post proposed rate increases and actuarial data supporting them online. “At the very least, we need some transparency,” Sebelius said after the meeting, according to the Associated Press. At a news conference, Angela Braly, president and CEO of WellPoint, said the issue of transparency is “a particularly constructive place to start.” While no agreement on posting rate requests online was reached, Stephen Hemsley, president and CEO of UnitedHealth Group, said at the conference, “I do expect there will be some follow-up from the secretary.”
