James Mongan, M.D., who recently retired as president and CEO of the Boston-based Partners HealthCare System, joined the board of directors for Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health and will serve on its audit committee. Mongan, 67, led Partners from 2003 to December 2009, and previously worked as president and CEO of Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, for six years. Mongan was executive director of Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo., from 1981 to 1996 and was also dean of the University of Missouri School of Medicine from 1988 until 1996. A strong proponent of healthcare information technology, Mongan was voted the Most Powerful Physician Executive in 2008 by Modern Physician's readers after finishing in second place in 2005 and 2007. He also was a recipient of sister publication Modern Healthcare's 2008 CEO IT Achievement Award.
