Nashville-based HealthTech Holdings, parent company to Healthcare Management Systems, said it has acquired MedHost, a company in Addison, Texas, that develops information systems for emergency departments. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a news release from both companies, HealthTech Holdings said with the acquisition, combined revenue is expected to be more than $100 million in 2010. The deal follows Health Management Systems' additions of the HMS Ambulatory EHR, which helped the company offer a clinical package that uses physician practice management and electronic health-record functionality to provide services for patients between the hospital and the physician's office.
The companies said the deal will allow both organizations to benefit from each other's strengths. For example, MedHost will develop a product that is designed for the community hospital market as it uses the expertise from Health Management Systems and the company's experience in serving 650 community hospitals.
