The Metropolitan Nashville Hospital Authority board voted to name Jason Boyd as its interim CEO after CEO Reginald Coopwood told the board that he planned to take the same job with the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.
Boyd named interim CEO at hospital authority
The Memphis public hospital, commonly known as the Med, extended an offer to Coopwood last week, but he has not been hired yet, said Angie Herron, communications manager for the hospital.
Coopwood, who will turn 50 on Jan. 3, has been CEO of the Nashville public hospital district since 2005. Previously, he was chief medical officer of the authority's flagship, 98-bed Nashville General Hospital. Coopwood also is a board-certified surgeon who holds associate professorships with Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Meharry Medical College, both in Nashville.
Boyd, 33, will assume the interim CEO duties on Feb. 1, the Nashville authority said. Boyd joined the hospital authority as chief operating officer in August 2008. Prior to that, he was COO of 164-bed Magnolia Regional Health Center, Corinth, Miss., for four years.
