Per editorial policy, award sponsors are involved in neither the judging nor determination of award recipients.
To assist Modern Healthcare in making the selections, the magazine enlisted the help of five judges, all of whom are affiliated with past Spirit of Excellence Award recipients. They are: Laura Barnes, vice president for patient-care services at East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville.
Tiffany Coury, associate administrator of Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla. Sandra Gordon, director of public relations of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Rosemont, Ill. Lee Elliott, vice president for human resources and fund development at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Neb. William Roche, clinical director at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Paterson, N.J.
Modern Healthcare would like to thank the judges for their insight and expertise. We also would like to thank the following people for helping make this year's competition another success: Rebecca Mielcarski, special projects/research editor at Modern Healthcare, who coordinated the award competition; Stacie Williams, a copy editor at Modern Healthcare, who assigned and edited all the recipient profiles; and Ed Finkel, a freelance writer and frequent Modern Healthcare contributor based in Evanston, Ill., who wrote the profiles. Finkel can be reached at [email protected]
