On-Q-ity, a new Waltham, Mass.-based oncology diagnostics company, has named Gary Palmer, M.D., its chief medical officer and he will lead clinical development and physician education efforts, a news release said.

Palmer, 59, previously was vice president of medical affairs at Genomic Health, Redwood City, Calif. He also worked in leadership positions at Kosan Biosciences, a pharmaceutical company specializing in cancer medications, and Amgen, a biotechnology company. Before that, Palmer worked as the director of medical breast service at the University of California Davis Cancer Center and was chief of medical oncology at the Sacramento, Calif.-based Mercy Health System.
In addition to earning a medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine, Palmer has a master's degrees in business administration and public health, as well as a law degree. For the past nine years, he's taught Management of Biotechnology at the UC Davis graduate school of management.
