Catholic Healthcare West named Scott Nordlund to the newly created role of vice president of new venture and partnership development. Nordlund, 45, was previously the 38-hospital system's vice president of strategy for Arizona and Nevada and chief strategy officer at its St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, a 738-hospital in Phoenix.
Nordlund will oversee the San Francisco-based system's push to diversify operations beyond acute-care hospitals, he said. The effort will focus on deals or investments in three areas: ambulatory care, including ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic imaging, radiation oncology and outpatient laboratories; episodic care, such as urgent care, retail clinics or free-standing emergency rooms; and post-acute care, including skilled-nursing and long-term acute-care facilities, he said.
Catholic Healthcare West executives see continued growth in healthcare delivered outside hospital walls, a trend already under way and one expected to continue regardless of how healthcare overhaul efforts develop, Nordlund said.
