Mark Leavitt, M.D., chairman of the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology, will retire effective March 31, 2010. Leavitt has acted as chairman since 2004. The health IT certification body says in a news release that it is conducting a national search to replace Leavitt. In April, Leavitt, 59, discussed the future of CCHIT in a video with Modern Physician. The commission has been restructuring its certification and testing programs for vendor products as it aligns itself to meet changes in the healthcare IT market since passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Modern Physician readers voted Leavitt the 32nd most powerful physician executives for 2009.
