Voters in Deaf Smith County, Texas, will have a chance next week to approve construction of a replacement hospital in Hereford - at a cost of $28 million. But residents of Deaf Smith aren't alone. In a drab economic period when many multimillion-dollar construction projects have been tabled, three Panhandle communities are in different stages of experiencing a rare event for rural Texas towns - the opening of a new hospital. Borger and Friona have projects ongoing, and Hereford is presenting the issue before voters.
One hospital done, one OK'd and one up for vote
