John Tooker, M.D., has announced that he will step down from his position as the executive vice president and chief executive officer of the 129,000-member American College of Physicians, the nation's second-largest physician organization.
He will stay on the job until a replacement is named which is expected to happen some time in the next six to 12 months, a news release said.
Tooker, 65, joined the Philadelphia-based internal medicine specialty organization in 1995, serving as deputy executive vice president and chief operating officer. He was promoted to the post of executive vice president and CEO on July 1, 2002. Under his leadership, the ACP's membership has increased 12%.
