Park Nicollet Health Services, St. Louis Park, Minn., has tapped physician David Abelson, M.D., to become CEO and president of the system on Jan. 1. Abelson, 58, first joined the system in 1983, and took on executive duties in 1998. The system, which owns Methodist Hospital, a 426-bed hospital in suburban St. Louis Park, and operates Glencoe (Minn.) Regional Health Services, a smaller facility under contract in the outlying community, became the first provider in the Twin Cities to run a fully integrated digital medical record in 2004. Abelson led the transition at the time, a Park Nicollet news release says. Abelson takes over as CEO from David Wessner, 57, who announced his retirement in June and will step down Dec. 31. Abelson was made president of the system in June, and will retain that title when he becomes CEO in 2010.
