Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, added the title of president to the duties of COO J. Bradley Wilson. Bob Greczyn, who plans to retire in 2010 at an unspecified date, ceded the insurance company's presidency but retains his title as CEO. Wilson, 56 and a North Carolina native, joined the North Carolina Blues in 1995. His titles over the years include senior vice president, general counsel, executive vice president, chief administrative officer and corporate secretary. Before joining the Blues, Wilson worked in private law practice for 14 years and then served as general counsel to former Gov. Jim Hunt. During that time, he also was acting secretary of the state Crime Control and Public Safety Department. Greczyn, 58, joined the North Carolina Blues in 1998, became its president in 1999 and added the CEO title in 2000. Jeff Houpt, a physician who chairs the insurer's board of trustees, said that, in Wilson, the board has chosen a person with broad experience both with the Blues and the state. “This culminates a very thoughtful process by the board of trustees which has been under way for more than a year,” Houpt said in a written statement. “We feel it has produced the right leadership to take our company forward during these times of change in healthcare.”

Paul Neumann, a former longtime general counsel for Catholic Health Initiatives in Denver, is becoming general counsel for another Roman Catholic health system, Trinity Health, Novi, Mich. Neumann, 50, has not worked at CHI for more than a year, a system spokesman said. His new role at Trinity is scheduled to begin on Nov. 2. Trinity has had Daniel Hale splitting his time between being general counsel and executive vice president of the system's Institute for Health and Community Benefit. Effective Nov. 2, Hale now shifts full-time into his role at the institute, focusing on community programs and chronic health issues.
