The value and acceptance of physicians into the executive suite is welcome news, and their involvement in strategy, operations and clinical performance is critical as we transform healthcare. (“Chief medical officers fared well with '08 compensation: survey,” Sept. 28 ). We will know we are really making progress when the ratio of women to men CMOs advances past the 1:9 found in the current study. The advancement tracks are not suited to women, so we must all be aware and develop ways that women leaders can have a strong voice in the delivery of healthcare.
