Loren Hamel, M.D., has been appointed president and CEO of two-hospital Lakeland HealthCare, St. Joseph, Mich., following the retirement of longtime executive Joseph Wasserman. Hamel is a physician by training and has served a year as executive vice president of the system.
He became president of the system's medical staff in 1997, and two years later was made vice president of medical affairs. Wasserman retired after serving 25 years as Lakeland's president and CEO. Hamel, 54, became executive vice president last year as part of a succession plan anticipating Wasserman's retirement, a news release said.
