Publicly traded SK3 Group, Harrison, N.Y., has purchased the assets of worker's compensation referral service Nurses On-Line from Solvis Healthcare for $1.2 million in a blended cash and stock acquisition. Nurses On-Line, which is based in Carlsbad, Calif., is a subscription service in which employers can pre-screen worker's-compensation claims before treatment by calling a 24-hour hotline and consulting with a registered nurse about the injury.
The company aims to reduce employer's risk exposure in worker's-compensation claims while providing around-the-clock first aid and emergency referrals. The Nurses On-Line Web site says many minor workplace injuries like sprains and strains respond favorably to on-site first aid, rather than treatment in a clinical setting.
The purchase is SK3 Group's first foray into healthcare. The 5-year-old company has in the past been primarily engaged in buying and selling personal music players and accessories.
