Nuance Communications, a Burlington, Mass.-based provider of speech-recognition and imaging solutions, has acquired eCopy, a Nashua, N.H.-based provider of document-management solutions. Nuance paid roughly $54 million in the form of common stock to eCopy shareholders, according to a news release.
Through the acquisition, Nuance will gain software that allows users of the company’s multifunction printer technologies to translate printed documents into software applications. The software includes, for example, applications that enable the conversion of a paper medical records to a functional electronic health record through the use of a scanner.
