Geisinger Health System, Danville, Pa., named John Buckley as chief administrative officer of Geisinger Northeast, which includes Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre (Pa.). Buckley succeeds Lissa Bryan-Smith, who was appointed chief administrative officer of Geisinger Regional Ambulatory Campus, a spokeswoman said. Buckley joined Geisinger on Aug. 3 from the Temple University Health System, Philadelphia, where he was CEO of Temple East/Northeastern Hospital, also in Philadelphia. Ages for Buckley and Bryan-Smith were not available. … John Labriola stepped down on Oct. 1 as senior vice president and director of Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Mich. Labriola, 62, will continue to work on Beaumont's formation of a medical school in partnership with Oakland University before retiring in 2010, a Beaumont spokesman said. Shane Cerone, 38, currently the hospital's COO, was appointed to become the top executive—a position Labriola has held since 1997. Labriola joined Beaumont Hospitals in 1970, and from 1983 to 1996 he was senior vice president and director of one the system's other two hospitals, Beaumont Hospital, Troy. … MedCath Corp. said that Art Parker was named executive vice president and CFO. Parker had been serving as interim CFO since June, when Jeff Hinton left the Charlotte, N.C.-based heart hospital operator. He also held the roles of senior vice president of finance and development, senior vice president and treasurer for the company. … Arnold Kimmel stepped down as CEO of MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, Ill. Kimmel, who also leads Chicago-based Transition Healthcare Co., engineered the acquisition of the struggling hospital in 2008, previously known as St. Francis Hospital and Health Center, from SSM Health Care, St. Louis. He is succeeded by physician Enrique Beckmann, previously president and CEO of Chicago's recently shuttered Michael Reese Hospital. A memo signed by both Kimmel and Beckmann and distributed to employees said the succession was “always the goal” after a first phase of the turnaround. Kimmel was upbeat as MetroSouth celebrated its one-year anniversary in August. Weeks later, however, MetroSouth laid off 120 employees, citing the bad economy. … Nancy Barone (formerly Kremer) was named vice president and executive operations director of University Hospital in Cincinnati. Barone, whose age was not available, previously spent 30 years with St. Luke Hospitals—which included St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas, Ky., and St. Luke Hospital West in Florence, Ky.—and stepped down as president and CEO when the hospitals merged with St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Covington, Ky., in October 2008. Her new position, effective Nov. 2, marks a return to the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, a system that includes University Hospital and once included St. Luke. For the past year, Barone has been CEO of the Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky. … Randy Martin was named to the newly created position of director of clinical education and physician development at the Piedmont Heart Institute, Atlanta, part of Piedmont Hospital. Martin, 66, has worked previously as an assistant professor of medicine and co-director of the noninvasive laboratory at Stanford University Medical Center. Martin also has been a medical television correspondent.
