Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Chicago, has reached an agreement to acquire 137-bed Lake Forest (Ill.) Hospital.
Northwestern plans to acquire suburban hospital
The hospital would be Northwestern Memorial's second hospital, extending the institution's reach deep into the city's fiercely competitive northern suburbs from its downtown academic medical center, 787-bed Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The transaction is subject to federal antitrust clearance and approval by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board. According to a news release, Lake Forest Hospital would become a subsidiary of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and part of an integrated healthcare system. The organizations announced in November 2008 that they were negotiating a potential affiliation and at the time declined to define what form such an agreement would take.
