Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons has signed an executive order creating a state task force to recommend how to implement a health information technology network in the state. Funding is provided through federal stimulus grants.
The 16-member panel includes government officials as well as healthcare industry and business leaders.
The governor said he wants recommendations by April 30.
Gibbons said the goal is to give healthcare providers easier access to patient medical records without compromising a patient's privacy. He said such a system also would reduce duplicative treatments or tests, and allow for faster detection of infectious disease outbreaks.
