A Los Angeles hospital employee who once threatened a doctor returned to work even though he spent months in jail for firing a gun into an occupied car.
Norris Smith, a surgical technician at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, spent 169 days in jail before pleading no contest to the felony charge last month.
The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that Smith worked at the hospital for at least a couple days last week, but his attorney, Christopher Darden, says he's now on administrative leave.
Darden says the criminal case involved a family dispute.
Smith's return to the county-run hospital shocked colleagues, who say they've been concerned about his behavior since 2005, when he was suspended after threatening a doctor.
