The investor-owned hospital company formed by former Triad Hospitals executives has changed its name. The Plano, Texas-based company is now LHP Hospital Group, rather than Legacy Hospital Partners as the company was known from its January 2008 founding. “The word ‘legacy' denotes the past, while we are embarking on a bright future,” Dan Moen, the company's CEO, said in a news release. LHP spokeswoman Pat Ball said that it's not uncommon for investor-owned companies to shorten their names to a series of letters, such as Hospital Corporation of America becoming HCA.
Investor-owned system puts 'Legacy' in the past
The original name also may have caused some confusion with not-for-profit Legacy Health System, Portland, Ore., Ball acknowledged, and LHP wanted to eliminate that confusion. There was some communication between the two hospital systems, Ball said. A Legacy Health System spokeswoman was looking into the question but did not respond by deadline.
LHP has broken ground on a $150 million, 187-bed replacement for the first hospital that it acquired, 161-bed Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho. LHP is the majority partner in a 77-23 joint venture with Bannock County, Idaho, to own and operate Portneuf.
