Rapid-fire acquisitions made Huron Consulting Group Inc. a Wall Street star and propelled founder Gary Holdren to the upper reaches of Chicago's civic scene. But pressure to keep the deals coming knocked Huron off the rails and drove the 59-year-old Mr. Holdren from the company he built out of the ashes of Arthur Andersen in 2002.
