The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology announced the release of an updated preliminary application template to be used by not-for-profit organizations in applying for federal grants to become regional health IT extension centers under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
According to the announcement, the application form “has been updated to include the complete requirements established in the funding opportunity announcement” since the Aug. 27 technical assistance telephone and Web conference.
Copies of the application are available from the federal Web site for grants and at the extension program section of ONC's Web site. In addition, the section on frequently asked questions has been updated since the meeting as well, the government agency announcement said.
Grants for the programs will be approved in three groups. A Sept. 8 deadline has been set for receipt of “preliminary applications” on the first round of grants. It is expected 20 grants will be awarded in the first round, with $189 million allocated for their use.
