A published report says the head of an embattled hospital in Machias, Maine has been placed on administrative leave.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Wayne Dodwell has been president and chief operating officer of Down East Community Hospital since 2002.
The News said he was placed on leave Friday, just hours after federal authorities notified the hospital it would be cutting off Medicaid reimbursements in less than two weeks.
An interim administrator has been named while a state takeover is being considered.
A month ago at the hospital's annual meeting, Dodwell said the hospital experienced a strong year related to quality, patient satisfaction and finances despite some challenging times.
