While this may provide one means of reaching the end goal to create meaningful electronic information, this would merely ignore (and only delay) addressing one of the major hurdles to leveraging the true power of electronic health records: electronic capture at point of care. We somehow need to do a better job of designing technology solutions with creative interfaces that will attract and give incentives to healthcare professionals to capture meaningful information at the point of care; otherwise were simply prolonging a slow and costly evolution toward realizing the benefits of a fully electronic healthcare environment. Let us not perpetuate the myth that physicians wont enter data; rather lets address the reasons why this is currently a challenge, and fix that piece of the model.
