Physician and lawyer David Pate has been named the incoming CEO of the three-hospital St. Lukes Health System, Boise, Idaho.
Pate, 52, will replace Ed Dahlberg, who plans to retire in March. Dahlberg will have been with St. Lukes for 25 years by then. Pate will join the Boise healthcare system in September with full decisionmaking authority, according to hospital spokesman Kenneth Dey.
Pate comes to the position from St. Lukes Episcopal Hospital, Houston, where he has been CEO since 2006, and a senior vice president of the two-hospital, St. Lukes Episcopal Health System since 1997.
Pate received a juris doctor degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 1996, a medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, in 1982, and a bachelors degree in biochemistry from Rice University, Houston, in 1979. An internist, Pate was voted by readers of Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician 17th on the list of 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare this year and 14th in 2008.
