For those Outliers readers looking for a Brangelina update: The famous couple, along with Pitts parents and siblings, recently donated $1 million for a new pediatric center in southwest Missouri.
Outliers: Brad Pitt and family do a good deed
Earlier this month, Pitts parents, William and Jane Pitt, attended an event with their other children, Doug and Lisa, (and their spouses), to celebrate a formal affiliation between St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Mo., and St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Later this summer, the St. Johns Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center will open in a temporary location on the fifth floor of St. Johns.
An affiliate partnership between our two hospitals will offer greater access to St. Jude treatment protocols for children in the Missouri and northern Arkansas region, physician Joseph Laver said in a news release. Laver serves as executive vice president and clinical director for St. Jude.
The Pitts donation will also be used to fund the position of Remi Fasipe, who will join the hospital on Aug. 1. Fasipe has served as assistant professor of pediatrics and in the division of pediatric hematology and oncology in the pediatrics department at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J. She will be the regions first pediatric oncologist/hematologist.
