The longtime president and CEO of Park Nicollet Health Services, David Wessner, announced his retirement at the end of the year. Wessner, 57, has served 11 years as leader of the St. Louis Park, Minn., system, which owns 426-bed Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park, and contract manages 135-bed Glencoe (Minn.) Regional Health System.
In recent months the system has struggled financially, but Wessner said that he felt he was leaving Park Nicollet in a good position. I think its been a struggle everywhere, Wessner said. But weve done a lot to turn our financial situation around, and have now gotten to a point where our trajectory is headed toward a good place. Park Nicollets latest financials were unavailable from the system at deadline. Chief Clinical Officer David Abelson was appointed president by the Park Nicollet board of directors on June 19, though Wessner will continue in the role as CEO until Dec. 31.
