Regarding the article Mich. lawmaker pressing for single-payer system:
I would love to believe that a single-payer system would provide as good care as Americans now enjoy and that the payment levels would continue. But what many are afraid of is that the government we now have is polarizingly partisan and they will be the single payer. Since their only goal is to get re-elected, they will have to lower taxes and therefore payments into the healthcare system. And since the government is driven by their voters, they in effect will be deciding who lives and who dies based on who votes for them.
It may be distrustful of our government, but excuse me, we have had a lot of long-standing laws and traditions set aside during the past five months, and I am not sure what to believe any more. Even our biggest bondholders are feeling queasy, not just because of our economy, but because they are not sure if the government will change the rules for them as bondholders as they did for the GM debt holders.
