Following a 1% increase in April, consumer prices for hospitals rose 0.1% in May, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index. In May 2008, the hospital index was 0.5%. For the year that ended last month, consumer prices for hospitals increased 6.7% compared with 7.9% for the prior 12 months.
Consumer prices for physician services increased 0.7% in May after a 0.1% rise the prior month. The physician CPI for May 2008 was also 0.7%. The physician index rose 3.3% for the 12 months ended last month compared with 2.8% in the year ago period.
