Cindy Mann has been appointed as the director of the CMS Center for Medicaid and State Operations, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced. Mann most recently served as a research professor and executive director of the Center for Children and Families at Georgetown University's Health Policy Institute.
She worked at HHS once before, back when the CMS was known as the Health Care Financing Administration. From 1999 to 2001, Mann was HCFAs director of the Family and Children's Health Program Group.
According to an HHS statement, Mann played a key role in implementing Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in this capacity.
Cindy Mann has decades of experience in healthcare financing at the federal and state level, and vast knowledge of healthcare policy, Sebelius said in a written statement. She has devoted her career to working on behalf of children and families, the elderly and people with disabilities. She will be an outstanding leader at CMSO, particularly as the nation moves forward with healthcare reform.
