HMA, a subsidiary of Health Management Associates Inc., may delay construction on its new $62.7 million, 60-bed Oviedo hospital for up to 18 months, thanks to an extension granted by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. At issue: It needs time to find less-expensive financing, as well as more time to buy land for the project and to determine exactly what health services the community needs.
